The Moon - 18

Sit with the shadows to see the truth

When the Fool comes towards his next lesson, all the focus is on the moon which shows a time of transitions, where the moon is the dominating force but still reflecting the truth of the sun from it.  Below we see the golden drops of divine inspiration coming down between the two pillars which mark a transition point in our understanding moving us from confusion to clarity.   There is a small and winding path to lead us to that clarification point, but first we must allow new ideas to emerge (like the crayfish) from our subconscious and balance the duality of our understanding between the learned (the dog) and the instinctual (the wolf).

Rider-Waite-Smith

Meanings

  • Things are not as they seem. You might have confusion, anxiety, or old traumas resurfacing.  This is a time to reflect and see what is not clear.

  • The Moon represents our psyche, it is time to explore the confusion coming from hidden things.  The shadows from the Moon can show truths of the subconscious that can’t be seen in the light of the sun.

  • Follow your intuition and let it guide you.  Seek clarity and question yourself to ensure you remain on your true path.

  • The warning of the moon card (when it is reversed or in a negative position) is to beware of believing the illusions.  Things are cloudy and confusing, make sure you’re gaining clarity from this time and not falling deeper into delusion.

Numerology - 18

Eighteen contains the leadership from 1 and the power from 8 but pushes it further.  It seeks balance between insight, intuition, and connection with the spiritual world.  You have learned your skills and now are seeking how to use them to better yourself and the world. Eighteen also echoes the numerology of 9 (1+8) - nines are a time to withdraw from the world for reflection, sifting through what has and has not worked.  You have learned creativity and insight, and the lessons of the past are now becoming clear.
