Pride & Policy’s aim is to provide the community with information and tools to navigate the quickly evolving legal landscape for LGBTQ+ individuals
What is Pride & Policy?
Since President Trump started his second term, the administration has unleashed an avalanche of activity to impose its policy priorities on Americans, including attacks on the LGBTQ+ community. Many states, including Ohio, have mirrored these attacks through state law. In so many instances, they have succeeded in harming and terrorizing people, especially the most vulnerable. Despite their efforts, these actions have been challenged, and in many cases blocked, in courts all across America. People are standing up and fighting back.
We see three major categories emerging in this fight for LGBTQ+ rights:
Attacks on laws and policies that protect us
Taking away rights that we enjoy
Trying to erase our identity and visibility
There is so much happening, so many sources of information, and such constant turmoil that it can be hard to keep track of it all. Unfortunately, confusion can generate fear and inaction and anticipatory compliance. We hope that this little zine will help people in the LGBTQ+ community better understand the many legal developments that are unfolding. Knowledge is power.
We’re located in the Cleveland, Ohio area, so the focus of this zine is on developments at the federal level and in the state of Ohio. We hope that it will help you navigate perilous times.
